Criminal Minds: Season Finale Ratings

Criminal MInds season finale was the most watched show Wednesday night with 10.8 million viewers. However, they came in second place to Modern Family in the 18-49 rating share category with 2.7 ( to Mf’s 3.6). That’s the good news.

“On CBS, the two hour finale of Criminal Minds earned a 2.7 up 4 percent from last week’s 2.6 adults 18-49 rating but down 25 percent from a 3.6 for last season’s finale on May 16, 2012. ” This is the bad news.

CBS won for the year. That means it can charge the most for ads.

Writers, please look at your calendars when writing. Beth initially tells Hotch her triathalon is in January. Later, over tea, Beth asks Hotch what he will do if he misses his FBI triathalon. Hotch tells her, “Maybe I’ll do yours.” But his will be in February. Hers is in January. And again, marathons and triathalons are NOT held up north in January, February, and March.

Day 24

There are also 2 altruistic stars on Criminal MInds: Shemar Moore and Joe Mantegna.

Shemar raises money for Muscular Dystrophy a la Jerry Lewis, except that Shemar does it his own way. Joe does what he can to support military personel a la Bob Hope. These aren’t one shot “raise money/photo ops” for them. Instead, these are lifelong commitments. It’s a positive when celebrities use their fame to help others and not for self-promotion.

DAY 23

Kudos for the writing team and producers for creating 3 altruistic characters; JJ, Penelope and Blake’ husband.

Altruistic people a givers; they give of themselves without expecting anything back. JJ volunteers with a new mother’s group. Garcia ran a victim support group,. Blake’s husband worked with Doctors Without Boarders. I can’t think of another show that had so many unselfishly giving and caring characters.

Day 22

In the “Big Sea” I don’t understand how Reid can identify the bones so quickly as to male or female when only the pelvic bones can be distinguished, An arm bone is an arm bone.

The bones were in the Atlantic ocean and due to waves and silt, they should have been mixed together. Yet the script makes them appear to be on very separate levels. How do yu figure out those levels when a machine is moving and spillout out silt and water?

If the actors had changed clothes we would have been given the idea that lots of time passed while trying to identify the bones.

I realize the writers needed a way for Foyet to learn Hotch’s address but really, would Hotch need to write Haley’s name and address in his planner/address book when she is living in the house that they bought together? Besides, if Foyet learned and got into Hotch’s apartment he could have found out Haley’s address. Still, the scene set up Haley and Jack’s exile to the witness protection program.

DAY 20

The writers had Hotch playing the hypocrite. When the terrorists were in the mall, planning an attack the day the mall opened, Hotch called Hallie, intending to tell her not to go and get Jack’s picture taken. However, when JJ wanted to call home and tell someone not to take Henry to the park, Hotch told her not to; it wasn’t fair if she used her knowledge of a possible biological attack and not warn the public.

Celebrate.It’s wonderful that all the cast and Erica Messer have signed for 2 years. I hope this means that none of our favorite characters will be killed off in the last episode.

If CBS doesn’t renew Criminal Minds and nobody else picks it up, will the audience be left with lots of questions like “Who got killed in the last episode?” This happened with the Supranos and the audience got angry.

Thomas Gibson & Joe Mantegna Near Deals To Return To ‘Criminal Minds’ But Kirsten Vangsness & A.J. Cook May Not Come Back

CBS’ long-running crime drama Criminal Minds once again is going down to the wire in securing the cast (and in this case a renewal) for next season. I’ve learned that after a long pause in the talks,Criminal Minds stars Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, Kirsten Vangsness and A.J. Cook, whose deals are up at the end of this season, received final offers from producer ABC Studios and CBS on Friday. I hear the studio and network put a clock on the negotiations, which have to conclude by end of day tomorrow for the series to get renewed. I hear leads Gibson and Mantegna, whose re-signing is considered crucial to the the pickup, are close to new agreements though sources caution that no deals have been made yet, while Moore is deep in negotiations but far apart on the money.

Meanwhile, I hear fan favorite Vangsness and Cook have turned down the offers, and with the clock ticking, it is unclear whether the two would come back next season. I hear the duo, who are negotiating together, have decided to take a stand on the treatment of female cast members on the show as the two have consistently been been paid less than half of what all of their male counterparts — not just stars Gibson and Mantegna — are making. With the new offers again positioning them well below all other cast members, I hear Vangsness and Cook are willing to walk if they don’t get some parity with their co-stars.

ABC Studios and CBS already were taken to task on the way female cast members of Criminal Mindsare treated when they cut in 2010 Cook and reduced the episodes of Paget Brewster, leaving Vangsness as the only remaining full-time female cast member. Cook and Brewster subsequently were reinstated, in part because of a major fan outcry. In addition to Vangsness and Cook, the current cast of Criminal Minds includes one more female cast member, new addition Jeanne Tripplehorn, who has not developed such a following. Criminal Minds took a step toward a renewal last week when ABC Studios signed a new deal with showrunner Erica Messer. Getting Gibson and Mantegna on board will likely secure a ninth season, but the question is whether it will feature Penelope and J.J.

In “Mayhem” after the SUV is blown up Hotch stand there in the middle of the street. Thomas Gibson has the most amazing bewildered look on his face. That is not an easy expression for an actor to achieve. It’s too easy to overdo it and turn the look into something comical.

DAY 16

Erica Messer wrote that Hotch was “estranged” from his brother Sean. Yet the last time we saw them together, Hotch went to see Sean in the dinner where he was working. Hotch told Sean,” A brother worries.” They made up. True, Sean wasn’t at Hallie’s funneral and no reason was given, but no mention of estrangement was mentioned either.

Day 15

Which character will be eliminated?

MGG already resigned, and Jeanne Tripplehorn’s contract isn’t up. Therefore, I eliminated those 2.

Then who?

Garcia is rarely out in the field, so that if the character dies while in a firefight, it is unlikely that Garcia would be hit, so eliminate her.

JJ is a new mother and was eliminated once before. To eliminate her a second time would be cruel and unusual punishment for her fans.

That leaves Rossi, Morgan and Hotch. Morgan just finished an arc that added a lot to his back story, but his mother already lost her husband; again, cruel and unusual to put her through a violent loss again.

The same could be said for Hotch.

That leaves Rossi. Rossi would be the most logical character for elimination. He lost an ex wife from whom he was divorced from for 20 years, and a child, who also died 20 years ago. He’s had 2 successful careers, as a profiler and writer. Also, he has never physically be hurt on the show.

However, I think it is Hotch that will be killed. I think Thomas Gibson wants off the show. He started pulling away from his fans when he stopped tweeting. We haven’t seen many pictures of him cutting up on the set this year. Even during the season wrap party he was off by himself with his phone. Although a fantastic actor, I sense a lack of enthusiasm in his portrayals this year. The credits list him “with” instead of “starring” indicating that he was easing himself out of the cast. He reunites with his brother, bringing closure to that element of Hotch’s story. He found a new love, has shown himself to be a good father, and rounded out his character as an athlete. Maybe Thomas feels there’s not much left to add to Hotch’s story. By reintroducing Sean Hotchner, the writers set up 2 relatives that could raise Jack: Sean and Jessica. Of course it would be extremely cruel to make Jack and orphan, but that’s the result if Thomas wants to be out. Moreover, age, constant traveling, missing his family and overall weariness is showing on Thomas’ face.Since Thomas left “Chicago Hope” because he was unhappy with his character I think he could walk away from “Criminal MInds.”

Why did the writers choose to have the team members call each other by their last names? How many of us call our co-workers by their last names?

Why do characters always say “Agent” instead of Ms. or Mr.? Only once do I remember Emily being called “Mrs. Prentiss” by a character.

How many times, in total, has Hotch been called “Aaron”? 1-10? 11-20? Can you name by whom?

Thoughts concerning Foyet:

How did the BAU know what meds Foyet was on in order to track the meds and find him?

Foyet tells Hotch he will give Hotch the same scars he has. If he cut Hotch the way he cut himself, shouldn’t Hotch be on the same painkilling cocktail too?

Day 11

Also, in “Solitary Man”, before things got so bad with the foster care agency, her father could have kept her by just putting her in the truck and driving to another state. Why involve the state at all? He could just drive with he everyday and claim he was homeschooling her, if anyone even asked. No state has jurisdiction as long as he drives from place to place.
